I am the lead specialist for the Colowyo Mine, so thank you for passing this information along to us. I
spoke with Colowyo representatives yesterday, whom were in our offices for a meeting for other reasons. They
confirmed the spill, explained the situation; leak from a Loader, contained within the West Pit, affected material hauled
to an in-pit treatment location.
Colowyo's permit with DRMS allows non-coal waste (includes lubricants, oils, etc.) disposal in backfilled areas and
coverage with a minimum of 25 feet of overburden material. Based upon what we know at this point, and confirmed by
the letter, dated 2/28/2011, that Tony Tennyson of Colowyo sent to you, the contaminated soil is being disposed of in
the West Pit in accordance w Colowyo's permit. I will verify the disposal area at our next inspection later this month.
Is there any other information or follow up you need from me? Thank you once again for contacting us with this
information.
J a vuet ? t.
