C-2010-089 PAR Part 3 18-Feb-2011
New Horizon North Mine Page 2 of 2
E ,.
2.05.3 (4) — Ponds, impoundments, other treatment facilities and diversions
26. Referring to Map 2.05.3(3)-1, it appears that haul road embankments are immediately
adjacent to all three sediment ponds. Please discuss whether or not the standing water in the
sediment pond might come into contact with the toe of the road embankment and, therefore,
affect the geotechnical stability of the road embankment.
27. Under Rules 2.05.3(4)(a)(i)(A), 2.05.3(4)(a)(ii)(A) and 2.10(2), please add appropriate
certifications to the three sediment pond Figures 2, 3 and 4 found in Appendix 2.05.3(3) -1.
2.05.6 — Mitigation of the Impacts of Mining Operations
2.05.6(3) — Protection of hydrological balance
25. The Division requests that the surface and ground water monitoring program required under
Rules 2.05.6(3)(b)(iv) and 4.05.13, and mentioned on page 6 of Section 2.05.6(3), be
described more fully. The revised description should include a list of the monitoring sites, a
list of the field and laboratory parameters to be sampled and the sampling frequency.
This concludes Part 3 of the Division's Preliminary Adequacy Review of the New Horizon North
Mine Permit Application Package. Please contact me with any questions that may arise from the
comments provided here.
Sincerely,
Marcia L. Talvitie, P.E.
cc: Sandy Brown, DRMS
