Fifty quarters, 50cm x 50 cm = m2 were placed in each type
randomly along the approximate centerlines. Samples were air dried for 10 days and subsequently weighed for the
nearest 0.1g, using a metric balance.
Cover data are presented in Exhibit 15, Vegetation Information.
Sample adequacy was attained in all types. Production data are presented
in Exhibit 15, Vegetation Information. Sample adequacy was attained in the
reference azea, which proved to have a rather hormgeneous flora, but was
not attained after 50 samples in each affected type. 'Ihe great
heterogeneity in herbaceous ground Dover in those types is due to the high
percentage of canopy cover, contributing to azeas of very high and very low
ground Dover.
The reference area proved to have herbaceous plant production
intermediate between the two affected types (39.67 g/m2 as oacg~ared with
15.08 g/m2 for oak-shrub and 47.43 g/m2 for conifer-shrub. Cover is much
higher on the reference area (a mean of 53.60 as m~ared to a mean of
14.79 and 27.55 for oak-shrub and conifer-shrub, respectively).
Nonetheless, the selected reference area is rather typical of grasslands in
the vicinity of the disposal azea, and is expected to be representative of
conditions which should result from proper reclamation practices on the
disposal area, when subsequently subjected to typical stocking rates for
livestock in the area.
The Division and WfC both ackna, rledge that the final configuration
of the refuse disposal area will be south facing aspect with an average
slope of 308. This configuration probably will not support a vegetative
cover consistent with predisposal conditions; rather grassland ooinminity
will be more appropriate.
--
~,
During the sampling and field work no threatened or endangered
plant species were encountered. Therefore, no impacts of these species are
expected. Aie to the smell area which will be disturbe3 during the tear of , _
2.04-46 (Revised 03/23/87)
