• auger by six-inch depth intervals (0 to 6, 6 to 12, etc.). At least 500
grams were collected for each sample and they were bagged in zip-locking
plastic bags, labelled, and sent to the lab for analysis.
Samples were analyzed in accordance with standard procedures for
the following parameters: pH; electrical conductivity; soluble Ca, Mg, Na,
sodium absorption ratio, saturation percentage, organic matter, and
particle size analysis.
Map 9, Soils, presents the soils for the PPA and RI19. Several
different soil types occurred: Rombo channery silty clay loam, Midnight
channery clay loam, Lowiers channery clay loam, disturbed areas (mine
waste), Vamer stony loam, Dargol stony loam, Fuera stony loam, and Noden
loam. Descriptions and additional information concerning these soils is
presented in Fbchibit 14, Soils Information.
The approximate location of the sample sites in the refuse
• ~ disposal area are shown on Map 9, Soils. Table 15, Soils Analysis Results
for RDA, are the analysis results for the samples taken by six-inch depth
increments. Generally, the results indicate that the material is
chemically suitable as a plant growth medium. Table 16, Suitability
Criteria of Topsoil, is generally accepted suitability criteria for topsoil
material.
In the proposed PPA, no topsoil would be salvaged because none
exists. in the RDA however, site soils will be salvaged prior to
construction. Nearly all of the soil that would be disturbed by the refuse
disposal site is mapped as the Rambo series with areas of the Midnight,
Louviers, and Vamer soils also affected. All of these soil types have
approximately the same depth (less than or equal to 16 inches) and nearly
the same percentage of coarse fragments throughout the profile (25 to 50
percent). While this material would normally not be considered physically
suitable for salvage (see Table 16, Suitability Criteria of Topsoil)
because of its skeletal nature, it is being salvaged here because it is the
• best material available.
2.04-37
