locations within the reclaimed areas sampled in 2010, as well as photographs of the Aspen,
• Mountain Brush, Sagebrush/Snowberry, and Steep Mountain Brush Reference areas, are
included in Appendix 4. Graphs of vegetation and climate data are presented in Figures 1 through
9 of this report.
In the cover descriptions below, species listed as "also present" were not "hit" during point-
intercept sampling but were present within one meter of either side of the 50 m sample transect
line. Unless otherwise stated, all cover values are for absolute all-hit data only. Percentages are
rounded to facilitate discussion of the results.
Phase 11 Bond Release Area
(Photographs 1 through 30)
e,n%1CD
(Table 1)
Introduced perennial forbs, introduced annual and biennial forbs, and native perennial cool
• season grasses were the predominant lifeforms observed in the Phase II Bond Release Area,
contributing 16.3, 13.5 and 12.3 percent of the all-hit vegetation cover respectively. Introduced
perennial cool season grasses, native annual and biennial forbs, native perennial forbs,
introduced annual grasses, native shrubs, and bryophytes contributed 4.1, 3.2, 4.2, 2.8, 0.9 and
0.4 percent cover respectively. The introduced perennial forb cover was composed mostly of
alfalfa (Medicago sativa). Introduced annual and biennial forbs cover consisted mostly of two lobe
speedwell (Pocilla biloba), prickly lettuce (Lactuca serriola), and Jim Hill mustard (Sisimbrium
altissimum). Native perennial cool season grass cover was predominantly composed of slender
wheatgrass (Elymus trachycaulus), western wheatgrass (Pascopyrum smithii), Canada bluegrass
(Poa compressa), and basin wildrye (Leymus cinereus). Also observed in the area were the
noxious weeds hound's tongue (Cynoglossum officinale), Canada thistle (Breea arvensis) and
bull thistle (Cirsium vulgare).
Total average vegetation cover for all hits was 57.7 percent. For herbaceous vegetation, total
average cover for all hits was 42.6 percent. Cover by standing dead, litter, bare soil and rock
averaged 0.29, 30.86, 13.0 and 0.9 percent respectively. Average species density was 26.4
species per 100 sq. m.
•
ESCO Assoc. E-8
