•
•
Introduction
The information assembled in this 2010 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR)
includes data collected from all water monitoring sites at Hayden Gulch
Terminal (HGT) Inc.'s Hayden Gulch Loadout (State Permit No. C-92-081)
for the calendar year 2010. Locations of water monitoring sites can be
found in Figure 1 (Appendix A).
Meteoroloqical Data
No meteorological data is collected at the Loadout. However, Peabody
Energy does collect meteorological data at its nearby Sage Creek and
Seneca II-W Mines. The reader is referred to those AHR's for that data.
Data from the National Climatic Data Center's Hayden Station is used
here to evaluate the precipitation trend. These data are provided in
Appendix B of the Seneca II-W AHR. For this year, 17.85 inches of
precipitation was measured, which is 0.51 inches (3%) above the 1971-
2000 average, 17.34 inches. The months of December, March, April, May,
June and August were above average.
Water Sampling and Measurement Techniques
Field conductivity and pH meters were calibrated prior to each days use.
The conductivity meter is calibrated using a potassium chloride solution
with an electrical conductivity in the 1,000 to 4,000 umhos/cm range.
The pH meter is calibrated using NBS traceable buffers with pH values of
7 and 10. Water level measurements are taken with a water level
indicator or directly from a steel tape.
Table 1 (Appendix A) shows the surface water parameter list used for all
stream sites. Table 2 (Appendix A) shows the ground water parameter list
used for all wells. Analyses are performed by ACZ Laboratory in
Steamboat Springs, Colorado. ACZ Laboratory performs all analyses by EPA
or equivalent methods. Samples are delivered the day of collection to
the lab in an iced cooler.
1
