PUBLIC NOTICE
New Elk Coal Company LLC, 122 West First St, Trirdded
CO $1082, the operator of the New Elk Mine, Permit
Number C-81-012 has filed a complete application for a
technical revision to the New Elk Permit with the State of
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety. Per-
mit C-81-012 renewal was approved by the Division on
April 13, 2009. For filing purposes this technical revision
application was deemed complete by the Division on Feb,
7, 2011.
The New Elk Mine is located approximately 7 miles west
of Weston, Colorado on State Hwy 12 within Sections 13,
14, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 28, 27, and 28 TS33S, 868W.
These sections can be located on the USGS 57 minute
Vigil and Weston quadrangle maps. A total of 193.6 acres
of surface disturbance from mining related activity is cov-
ered by a Letter of Credit Bond and Cash Bond in the
amount of $2,946,786.
The technical revision provides for the construction of
new mine portals, rock slopes and associated surface fa-
cillities within the surface disturbance boundry of the per-
mit an lands owned by New Elk Coal Company, LLC. The
new mine portals will be located southeast of the silos.
Rock slopes will be driven eastward to intersect The
BlueSeam. Blue Seam mining is not included in this
technical revision. Facilities proposed for the new mine
protals incude: ventilation fan, conveyor belts, retaining
walls and associated roads. Facilities proposed for the
west mine include a power line and ventilation fan. Wells
to dewater the old Allen Mine works are also proposed for
this technical revision.
The technical revision is on file for public inspection at the
Las Animas County Courthouse Office of County Re-
corder and at the offices of the Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety, 1313 Sherman St., Room 215, Denver,
CO, 80203, [phone]. Written comments regarding
this application may be submitted to and additional infor-
mation may be obtained from the Division of Reclamation,
Mining & Safety at the above address.. Written comments
must be received by the Division of Reclamation, Mining
& Safety within 10 days after the date of this publication in
order to be considered.
