1. If there is an area inside the adit where this material could be stored until
it is needed for milling; that may be a better option than constructing the
concrete lined waste/dump pit.
ii. If the Applicant chooses to leave the material in the pit, the design of the pit will
need to change to ensure long term protection of the surface and ground water
system. The current proposed plan calls for constructing the 30X30XI2 foot
waste pit with concrete walls and floor to contain the ore/waste generated by
cleaning out the existing tunnel. Concrete will crack overtime and may allow
acidic and toxic material to leach out. Given this, if the Applicant chooses to
leave the waste material in the pit, the Division will require the pit to be lined and
covered with a geo-synthetic material or a clay liner. Please submit plans,
specifications, and quality assurance protocols for the installation of the liner
system.
b. Depending on the response to the item above, if the first option is chosen, please indicate
how the concrete pit will be reclaimed. The concrete floor and wall will need to be
demolished and buried with soil, and the pit will need to be graded and revegetated. If
the second option is chosen, the Applicant must line the pit and cover the waste with geo-
synthetic material or clay. Once this is complete, the waste material and liner will need
to be buried with soil material and revegetated.
c. The 1/4 acre affected land will be compacted by truck traffic from the operation and
stockpiling of timbers and ore. Once the operation is complete this area will need to be
revegetated. It is likely the soil will be compacted due to the operation and will need to
be scarified. Please submit a seedbed preparation plan and a seeding plan for the site
including a list of species to be planted and the amount of live seeds per acre to be
planted for each species. This information can be obtained from the Natural Resource
Conservation Service.
i. If mulch and fertilizer will be necessary, please indicate the type and quantity of
material to be applied.
d. Will any roads remain within the'/4 acre area after the site is reclaimed? If so, please
indicate the location of the roads on an appropriate map and indicate the dimensions of
the roads.
Financial Warranty:
15.) The Division will estimate a cost to reclaim the site based on the application and your response to
the adequacy review issues above. Please note that prospecting operations may not commence
until the adequacy issues are addressed and the bond is submitted and approved by the Division.
Please be advised the Stanley Mine Prospecting Application may be deemed inadequate, and the
application may be denied on March 21, 2011 unless the above-mentioned adequacy review items are
addressed to the satisfaction of the Division. If you feel more time is needed to complete your reply, the
Division can grant an extension to the decision date. This will be done upon receipt of a written waiver of
your right to a decision by March 21, 2011 and request for additional time. This must be received no later
than the deadline date.
