Overview
This report summarizes Habitat Management, Inc.'s (Habitat Management) integrated
pest management efforts at Climax Molybdenum Mine (Climax) during the 2010
growing season. Weed control management on the Climax property was initiated in 1999.
During the growing season of 1999, Habitat Management conducted a weed survey of the
project area to characterize the extent of weed infestation. The survey identified the
following twelve species of noxious weeds growing on the property:
• Mayweed chamomile (Anthemis cotula L.)
• Oxeye daisy (Chrysanthemum leucanthemum L.)
• Canada thistle (Cirsium arvense L.)
• Yellow toadflax (Linaria vulgaris L.)
• Musk thistle (Carduus nutans L.)
• Hoary Cress (Cardaria draba L.)
• Diffuse knapweed (Centaurea diffusa L.)
• Spotted knapweed (Centaurea stoebe L. ssp. micranthos Hayek)
• Russian knapweed (Acroptilon repens L.)
• Field bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis L.)
• Houndstongue (Cynoglossum officinale L.)
• Leafy spurge (Euphorbia esula L.)
The information obtained during the weed survey was used to develop an IPM plan for
Climax. Weed management under this plan was implemented on a project-wide basis in
the summer of 2000 and has continued during the subsequent growing seasons.
2010 Weed Management Activities
Habitat Management is a licensed commercial pesticide applicator that performed weed
management activities at Climax during the 2010 growing season.
