Site 5SA106, the Middleton Townsite was recommended as needing
additional data before an assessment of eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)
could be made. Site 5SA867, the Hamlet Mine Complex has been determined to be eligible for the
NRHP based on a field evaluation. We recommend that the operator avoid these sites or that
additional inventory be conducted to determine the effect of the proposed project on these resources.
If site avoidance is not possible, we recommend further consultation with our office in order to
identify options to avoid, minimize, or mitigate the adverse effect to the sites.
Should human remains be discovered during mining activities the requirements under State law CRS
24-80 part 13 apply and must be followed.
Thank you for the opportunity to comment. If we may be of further assistance, please contact Shina
duVall, Section 106 Compliance Manager, at (303) 866-4674 or shina.duvall (c(chs.state.co.us.
Sincerely,
Edward C.
