2-4-2011

To:Div of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety p.p ?S6
Dept of Natural Resources-(copy to Denver and Durango officesj's,4'?>
From: William Karls ?o o?
4?
P
O Box 91
Hesperus, CO 81326 0
(970)2474603 .00
y?
Dear DRMS:
I am writing in reference to Mining Application CN-01, Wildcat Mining's application
concerning the Mayday/Idaho mines. I am not sure why I was not on the "Interested
Parties List" included in your letter of 1/13/11 announcing the withdrawl of the previous
application (AM-O1). I had previously received correspondence surrounding Wildcat's
applications. PLEASE, ADD ME TO THE LIST OF "INTERESTED PARTIES"-I am co-
owner of a property. across CR 124 from the project. Our property address is 4465 CR
124. My mailing address and phone number are listed above.
I am very concerned about this new application from the same Wildcat Mining that made
a mess of the La Plata river riparian area and the mountainside at their previous site. I
have seen the pictures (taken by DRMS workers) which document the fouling of the
drainage in that area with debris, including leaking barrels etc. The road which was built
to access the mining area is a disaster from bath a safety and environmental standpoint.
As your pictures show, a section of their (unpermitted) shaft has collapsed demonstrating
a lack of concern for the safety of those working the project.
Wildcat Mining has shown a repeated disregard and disrespect for the established process
set forth by your Division. They also have repeatedly ignored efforts to guide their inept
site development attempts, by La Plata County. I strongly urge you to deny this
application based on the damage they HAVE ALREADY inflicted on the area, and the
threat they represent to water sources in the vicinity. They have yet to clean up the mess
from their last efforts. They have no safe access to the project and if their collapsed shaft
is any indication of their safety awareness someone is going to get hurt up there with no
adequate access for emergency vehicles. I trust you will evaluate their application
thoroughly, knowing their history.
Sincerely,
William Karls
