Sand,
gravel and related products will be mined from the subject property by the well owner, Grand
Junction Concrete Pipe Co. ("Grand Junction Pipe"), pursuant to a lease between Grand Junction
Pipe and the owner of the property on which the gravel pit is located. Grand Junction Pipe is using
and will use the water for industrial purposes, including but not limited to dewatering activities and
evaporation from a maximum lake area of sixteen (16) acres , dust suppression, aggregate washing,
and product moisture losses. These activities will be conducted in connection with the mining of
sand, gravel and related products, and with the reclamation and use of the land during and after
completion of the mining activities. The total amount of water diverted will be 184.28 acre feet per
year, summarized as follows:
Use
Evaporation
Dewatering
Dust Suppression
Product Moisture
Aggregate Washing
TOTAL
Amount Max. Mining
activities have recently been commenced at the South Fruita (Karp) Gravel Pit. To date,
approximately 8 surface acres of groundwater have been exposed to the atmosphere, resulting in
some evaporation losses. Mining is continuing at the pit.
This Statement of Beneficial Use is being submitted pursuant to guidelines and
interpretations of the State Engineer's office, including without limitation Paragraph 29 of the
"General Guidelines for Substitute Water Supply Plans for Sand and Gravel Pits submitted to the
State Engineer Pursuant to S.B. 89-120 and S.B. 93-260", which states in part as follows:
Evidence that water from a gravel pit (well) has been put to beneficial use must be
submitted after groundwater has been exposed and prior to the expiration date of the
permit in a form prescribed by the State Engineer. For purpose of acceptance of the
statement of beneficial use, the annual appropriation claimed shall be the maximum
permitted regardless of the actual surface acreage exposed .. .
