PERMIT #: M-2010-058
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: DMC
INSPECTION DATE: February 10, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This preoperation inspection was conducted by the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) in response to
the Construction Material Regular (112) Operation Reclamation Permit application submitted by Lafarge West, Inc. Sean
Frisch, representing the applicant, was present during the inspection. Although the weather was clear during the
inspection, there was significant snow cover on the ground. The applicant has included photographs in their application
package that adequately document the premining vegetation conditions at the site. Photographs taken at the site during
this inspection are included at the end of this report.
The Cerise Mine site is located approximately 2 miles northeast of Carbondale, and will be accessed from CR 103 after an
access road crossing Crystal Creek has been constructed.
The current site use is pastureland, which will also be the post mining land use. The permit area will include 65.5 acres,
of which 57 acres are expected to be mined. The unmined acreage will serve as buffer zones and topsoil/overburden
stockpile areas. It is expected that sufficient quantities of overburden material will be available on site for completing
reclamation, and that enough topsoil will be salvaged in order to be distributed over the disturbed areas during reclamation
at a depth of no less than six inches. The mined aggregate materials will be processed onsite. The static ground water
level at the site is estimated to be 90-100 feet below the ground surface. All excavation shall be limited to a depth of two
feet above the groundwater level.
This inspection confirmed that site conditions were accurately portrayed in the application package submitted by Lafarge
West, Inc. No additional concerns were noted during this inspection. The Division has calculated an adequate Financial
Warranty estimate (enclosed) for this site.
No problems or additional areas of concern were noted during this inspection
Inspection Contact Address
Sean Frisch
Lafarge West, Inc.
10170 Church Ranch Way, Suite 200
Westminster, CO
80021
Enclosure: Financial Warranty estimate
CC: Pam Hora
Tetra Tech
1900 South Sunset Street, Suite IF
Longmont, CO
80501
