The weather was warm (-45 degrees F),
sunny and calm. Approximately 3.5 to 4 feet of snow remains on the ground throughout the site. The mine area
was accessed via snowshoes.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS - Rule 5.02.4(1):
Mine Records were checked in the Routt County Clerk and Recorders office in Steamboat Springs.
Records form is included in this inspection report. Records were up to date and properly filed. The Insurance
Certificate in the public file expires in March 2011. A new certificate has been received by the Division, but a
copy needs to be filed with the files in the Routt County courthouse.
FISH and WILDLIFE - Rule 4.18:
Although no wildlife was observed during the inspection, numerous elk track were observed though out
the wooded areas of the mine. Snow in the Moffat pit area reclamation was quite deep (3-4 ft.) limiting travel by
wildlife.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Ponds and ditches were inaccessible due to snow cover. Due to the depth of the
snow pack and the amount of sinking even with the snowshoes, the inspector was unable to access further south
than the North portion of the Moffat pit. West pit pond was not observed and Moffat pond was observed from a
distance. Detailed observations of the ponds were not possible due to the snow conditions.
ROADS : The mine access road was snow covered. Snow plowing had only occurred along Routt County
Road 179 and a short way up the access road to the mine access gate. Snow was drifted over the yellow gate to the
mine access road. Access was made via snowshoes. Due to the warm conditions, the inspector was sinking in
considerably even with the snowshoes. Access was made to the northern portion of the reclaimed Moffat pit area.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 5
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 2 of 5
