CDOW believes that Snowcap Coal Company should continue to search for reclamation techniques and strategies
that will successfully reclaim areas of disturbance to standards described in the restoration document. We
strongly encourage the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety to maintain restoration standards in bighorn
sheep habitat areas. With that said, CDOW does recognize that areas within the permit boundary vary in habitat
significance; for example areas along the edges of I-70 and along the rail road tracks and spurs may be less
valuable to wildlife and thus a change in the revegetation success criteria may be appropriate in these geographic
areas.
Again, thank you for the opportunity to comment on this project. The mission of the Colorado Division of
Wildlife (CDOW) is to protect, preserve, enhance, and manage wildlife and their environment for the use, benefit
and enjoyment of the people of Colorado and its visitors. One of the ways we achieve this mission is to comment
on land use proposals such as the request we received from you.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call me at 970-255-6178.
,,-?incerely,
,--'JT Romatzke
Area Wildlife Manager
Colorado Division of Wildlife
CC.
