Hole 31-7M decreased in water level 0.3 feet. This well is up gradient from mining
activity and the water level fluctuation is minimal.
33-8M experienced a similar slight drop in water level (0.4 feet) as 33-8U.
The hydrographs of the "lower sandstone facies" are designated by the letter "L" following
the hole number.
Hole 2-17L showed a rise of 24.4 feet from the prior year. This rise is attributed to the rise
in water level within the D-seam workings.
Hole 33-81- showed a 0.7 foot decrease in the depth to water. This response is similar to
the adjacent 33-8U and M holes.
Hole 4-20L showed no change from the prior year.
Monitoring hole 22-21- was completed in October 2005 for monitoring future mining
expansion. This hole recorded a 2.3 foot drop in the water table over the prior year.
From the baseline data, all three zones should be classified as "aquitards" in that they will
yield water but at very slow rates. Mining in the B Seam so far has encountered only
small flows of water and the mine is essentially dry. Typical inflows are in the order of 25
to 30 gpm with occasional short term increases when localized perched water tables are
encountered. Water leaking out of caved areas is routed to the sumps at the end of
gateroads. No underground water has been pumped out of the mine since the January
31, 1996 underground fire. Currently, excess water is pumped from the B-seam to the
abandoned D-seam for storage.
2.2.1.4 Bedrock Water Quality Water sampling and analysis are no longer required
from most of the bedrock monitoring holes. However, as required by DRMS, prior to
entering Federal leases C-8424 and C-8425, one water quality sample was collected and
analyzed from each of the monitoring holes in federal leases C-8424 and C-8425. Such
sampling was limited to the middle (coal facie) zone.
BME has agreed to sample the point of compliance monitoring well on an annual basis
starting with the 2006-2007 hydrologic year. The point of compliance for 2007-2008 was
monitoring well 294M. Starting in 2008-2009 the point of compliance is now monitoring
well 22-3M. Samples are analyzed for dissolved iron and manganese and total dissolved
7
