COMMENTS
AIR RESOURCE PROTECTION—Rule 4.17:
There was no odor of smoldering coal coming from the backfilled west side portal area. Occasionally,the
odor has been detected during past inspections.
AVAILABILITY OF RECORDS—Rule 5.02.4(1):
The mine's required records were at the Bowie No. 2 Mine office as documented on the attached checklist.

In spite of the sediment pond being covered in snow,the pond's embankment appeared to be stable.The
emergency spillway was clear of any debris and the gate on the primary discharge pipe was closed.The hillside
spring water treatment pond was also snow covered but was discharging at about 10 gpm. The discharge was
orange in color which has been found to be in compliance with water quality standards.The caps were on the two
alluvial wells and the riverside berm was in place.

The paved haul road was snow covered and icy. Access to the site was on foot.The cable guard was up on
the outside edge of the road.The bridge was also snow covered.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15,Rule 3:
Although the entire mine site was covered in snow, it did not appear that there were any problems with
slope stability at the reclaimed access road and fan area.There did not appear to be any new developments with
slope instability at the backfilled west portal area. The removal of mine-related structures and debris for the partial
