Weed Management Plan
Loukonen Bros Stone Company
Date: January 2011
Weed Management Plan
Target Species: diffuse knapweed, Canada thistle, bull thistle, bindweed,
Russian thistle, yellow star thistle, puncture vine
Application - primary application will occur in the spring from mid April to mid
---June for growing season control. Herbicides will be applied at
labeled rates for the specific weed being controlled. Application
will be timed to periods of favorable plant growth when the target
species has attained six to eight inches of new plant growth.
Secondary application in the fall from August to mid October will
be used to clean up escaped or missed plants where suppression of
the bolting and formation of seed heads of thistle and knapweed is
needed. Application will also be made to control late emergence
and growth of biannual thistle and knapweed rosettes.
Warm season weeds such as puncture vine will be sprayed from
July through September as needed to control different periods of
germination and growth.
Herbicides - restricted use herbicides will be avoided when practical where
other over-the-counter herbicides will provide adequate control or
suppression of the target species at the labeled rates. Herbicides
that may be used alone or in combination with others include but
are not limited to Milestone, Curtail, Touchdown, Clarity, Outlaw
and other 2,4D formulations.
Monitoring - efficacy of applications will be determined monthly during the
growing season. Follow-up in September will be used to plan
needed application for the following year.
The overall management plan will be reviewed every five years to
determine if any major changes are needed to address new
concerns or changes in regulations
