The State Engineer's current policy requires that all impounded water be released
to the stream system within a maximum of 72 hours after impoundment. Any exposed
groundwater must be backfilled immediately until a well permit issued pursuant to CRS 37-90-
137(2), allowing the exposure of groundwater in a pit, is obtained from the State Engineer.
While the Cerise Mine is operating, any stormwater that is captured will infiltrate the gravel
resource within 72 hours. Once the site is reclaimed, stormwater will be directed to an
infiltration basin to make sure any water captured will infiltrate and not be impounded for more
than 72 hours. Lafarge does not anticipate exposing groundwater at the Cerise Mine, but if
groundwater is exposed it will be backfilled immediately or a well permit will be sought.
Thank you for your consideration
Sincerely,
TETRA TECH
.,?
! f ha
Pamela Franch Hora, AICP
Senior Planner
Attachment: BWCD Contract No. 586
cc: Dustin Czapla, DRMS
Sean Frisch, Lafarge West, Inc.
