EXHIBIT D
Mining Plan
General
The Cerise Mine property is located in Sections 25 and 26, Township 7 South, Range 88 West of
the 6th PM, Garfield County, Colorado. The property is located directly north of Highway 82 and
east of County Road 103. The property contains a significant commercial deposit of sand and
gravel.
The permit boundary will encompass 65.48 acres. Mining activities will occur on approximately 57
acres and the remaining unmined acres will be used for buffer areas, overburden and topsoil
stockpiles and internal road and conveyor access.
Agricultural and rural residential uses surround the portion of the Cerise property to be mined with
the exception of Lafarge's Powers Mine that is located to the west of the proposed Cerise Mine on
the other side of County Road 103.
The site has been drilled during sampling episodes in 2008 by Deere and Ault and 2009 by
EnviroGroup Limited, and testing has been performed to verify the sand and gravel deposits are
commercially marketable. Based on test results, the topsoil is 6"-12" deep and overburden is
between 5' and 22' feet deep over the site. Therefore, total estimated amount of overburden will
amount to approximately 670,000 cubic yards. All overburden needed for the construction of the
final reclamation slopes will remain on-site. Based on the drilling log data, it is unknown how deep
sand and gravel extends; however, mining will not extend below groundwater which lies 90'-100'
below the surface. Therefore, based on this information, Lafarge estimates that they will extract
approximately 7,300,000 tons of sand and gravel from the Cerise Mine. Because Lafarge will only
mine the sand and gravel above groundwater, the deposit to be mined is classified as a dry alluvial
deposit.
The site is owned by the Clifford Cerise Ranch Co, LLLP. Lafarge has a lease to mine the property,
process the material on-site, and have a concrete plant and temporary asphalt plant on-site. The site
will be mined in four phases. These phases are neither representative of the maximum area of
disturbance nor do they limit disturbance to a particular phase. While the rate of mining is
dependent on market conditions, it is anticipated that it will take approximately fifteen years to
mine and reclaim the Cerise Mine property.
Methods of Mining
The Cerise Mine will be mined in phases as illustrated on Exhibit C. Initial stripping will
encompass an area large enough for site access, plant footprint, material stockpiles and Phase 1
mining. Topsoil from this process will be placed outside the mining limits west of Phase 4B.
Overburden will be placed outside of the mining limits just south of the Basin Ditch. The piles will
be seeded to prevent erosion shortly after placement.
Subsequent stripping will occur approximately six months before moving into a new phase.
Cerise Mine
DRMS 112 Reclamation Permit Application
Page DI of D5
