PERMIT #: M-1987-078
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: JLE
INSPECTION DATE: January 24, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was a monitoring inspection of the Lamar Park Gravel Pit; DRMS File No. M-1987-078 operated by the City
of Lamar. This site is within the city limits of Lamar, Colorado in Prowers County. I, Jared Ebert of the
Colorado Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) conducted the inspection. Mr. Wiley Work of
the City of Lamar accompanied me on the inspection.
This is a 7.6 acre 110c mining operation. The mine entrance sign was posted and the boundaries were
marked. The Operator has created a small pit excavation near the center of the permit area. The excavation
is approximately four to five feet deep with 1:1 horizontal to vertical ratio slopes to nearly vertical side slopes.
Several piles of mined material were located east of the excavated area. Overall, mining appears to have
begun in the eastern portion of the site and is advancing west.
The land east of the current excavated area is in the process of reclamation. The land has been graded and
grass has begun to establish throughout the area. At the eastern end of the site, the City has been storing
light and power equipment. It was explained to Mr. Work the post mine land use for the mine would not
allow for the storage of this equipment, and if the City wanted to continue to use this site as a storage yard,
they would have to amend the reclamation plan to accommodate this use. Mr. Work indicated he would
address this issue.
