RE: New mining reclamation seed mix inquiry -'att.net Mail'
-Y&I400fe. MAIL
Classic
RE: New mining reclamation seed mix inquiry Wednesday, January 5, 2011 1:28 PM
From: "Spence, Edward - Brighton, CO" <edward.spence@co.usda.gov>
To: "Venture Resources" <ventureresources@att.net>
Ryan,
I no longer work in the Jefferson, Clear Creek, and Gilpin county area. However, the previous mix could still
be used. The species are found up to 10,000 ft in elevation. The one change I would make is to remove the
Blue Grama from the mix and add 1 pound of red fescue to the mix. Their seeding rates are very similar.
Blue grama is a warm season species that does not do well around shade, and red fescue is an introduced
species that is shade tolerant. The others are all cool season species, and depending on the degree of
shade, should be alright to use as long as the seeding is not under a canopy of trees. Nothing will grow
under that.
If you need more assistance, contact Boyd Byelich in our office in Longmont at 303-776-1242.
Ed
From: Venture Resources [mailto:ventureresources@att.net]
Sent: Monday, January 03, 2011 3:40 PM
To: Spence, Edward - Brighton, CO
Subject: New mining reclamation seed mix inquiry
Ed,
You helped me last year with a reclamation seed mix/soil profile for our mining project.
As part of this overall project, we will be removing additional mine dumps in the vicinity and reclaiming them as well.
The application you helped with earlier was a barren, south facing site. Could you help with a more shaded, forested
site?
Attached are the excerpts from the WEB soil survey of the new area, elevation about 9,200'. Could you prepare a letter
for this? Having this with the barren site you already did will cover all of our needs.
Thanks,
Ryan J.
