For mine drainages, it is necessary to begin <br />evaporation immediately since the water is unacidi- <br />fied and a Fe(OH)3 precipitate can start to form <br />within 24 hours. <br />2. After the residue is evaporated, the analysis can <br />be interrupted. At this point, the sample in the <br />pie plate can be stored in a dust free area until <br />a number of samples are ready for the 180° oven. <br />3. Since the pie plates will probably be purchased <br />at the local supermarket, they may have a surface <br />i layer of organic material. Wash them and heat <br />them to a consistent weight in the 1800 oven <br />before using them for analysis. <br />•
