Tab 22
Revegetation Plan
The following Revegetation Plan details the methods and materials required to revegetate
and stabilize lands affected by surface mining at the New Horizon 1 Mine (Permit No. C-
Nli
1.0 Postminino Land Use
According to public comment of Peabody Coal Company's 1976 Nucla Mine Permit
Application, the area residents want abandoned cropland returned to cropland. Therefore,
a significant portion of the site will be seeded as dryland pasture to provide a perennial
forage crop for harvest by livestock. The area located in the S 1/2 SW 1/4 Sec 25 (T47N
R16W), also known as the Rice Tract, has the greatest possibility of being irrigated. This
area will be reclaimed to dryland pasture(Seed Mix #5) and irrigated alfalfa hayland (Seed
Mix #6) fields. Western Fuels- Colorado and the new land owner, Garvey & Company,
have reached an agreement to irrigating a 6+ acre tract as alfalfa hayland just west of
the brick farm house, see Map 22 -1. Garvey & Company will provide the water and labor
for this field and will benefit from the crop. The field below the house may eventually be
irrigated after bond release by Garvey & Company. The remaining post law reclaimed
areas will be rangeland (Seed Mix #1) in areas reclaimed around Sediment Ponds 001,
002, 004, 005 and 006. Agriculture related to livestock grazing with incidental use by
wildlife is to be the postmining land use.
2.0 Postminino Veoetation Types and Land Use
As noted in the above section, a portion of the reclaimed area will be returned as dryland
pasture. This area will receive thicker 15 inch topsoil replacement depths and will be
seeded with Seed Mix #5 Dryland Pasture Mix. The remaining areas will have 10 inch
topsoil replacement depths (Seed Mix #1) and are generally adjacent to the old mine
disturbance areas or native rangeland areas. Drainage and riparian vegetation types will
be established in sediment pond reclamation areas and any affected areas of the large
Revised February 2010 (PR06) Tab 22 -4
