Bc.x 6.28
Nuc l a, C:C r _:1424
Dear Ross:
Earlier this month we visited a 65 acre site known as the Rice
House Tract. We discussed several unsuccessful attempts to estabiishr
vegetati on this Otherwise reclaimed mine site. The following is my
recommendation for steps to be taken to enhance the l i k e l i h o o d of a
successful revegetation effort in the future.
The current reclamation plan identifies the post mining land use
as rangeland and dryland pasture. The approved seeding mix
(approximately 2 0 species) appears tr, be an attempt to meet or exceed
the requirements of Math post ruining land uses. The mix, contains many
more species than the SCS would normally recommend. In terms of
managing livestock grazing after vegetati is re established, it
would be more desirable to have fewer species in the mix and a:.I E.5
acres classified as One post raining use. I recommend that the
reclamation p l a n be rev i secl to identify a past -rn i n i ng land use of
dryland pasture on all 65 acres and the following seed mix:
SFECIES CULTI VAFi
OF MIXTURE
Fairway Crested Wheatgrass Ephriam :2 0
Pubescent Wheatgrass Luna 2 0%
Smooth Srome Manchar 2 0
Russian W i I drye So--o i sky
*RS Wheatgrass Newhy
Alfalfa / 10
Spreador : 10%
*If RS wheatgrass is not a v a i l a b l e , increase pubescent w! by
1.0 pound /acre.
