10.0 Testino for Successful Reclamation
The stated objective of the reclamation is to provide stable and productive areas for all
postmine land uses Rangeland areas are those areas with lower thicknesses of replaced
topsoil and are either adjacent to old mine disturbance areas and native rangeland areas
or are located in areas that have little or no potential to be flood irrigated in the future
(see Map 22 -1 from this Tab).
The following standards of revegetation success have been developed based on the
postmining land uses, the general land use of the area, past history of the site, pre -law
disturbance and the unique environmental conditions and resources at Nucla.
Table 22 -3 Summary of Revecietation Success Criteria
Vegetation
Success
Post - Mining
Cover
Production
Species
Sampling
Criteria rule
Land Use
Diversity
Areas
Area 1 -A and
4.15.10
Rangeland
90% of the
None to be
5 total species
1 -B
live perennial
tested (no
of at least 3%
(fully
cover of
change)
relative cover
released)
dryland
(at least one
pasture
shrub and one
reference
perennial
grass)
area
Area 2
4.15.8
Dryland
90% of the
90% of 500
None
(has
Pasture
live perennial
Ibs /acre (no
achieved
cover of
change)
Phase 1 and
dryland
2 release)
pasture
reference
area
Area 3
4.15.8
Irrigated
None
90% of 2710
At least 75%
(has
Hayland
Ibs per acre
of cover or
achieved
(per Table
production
Phase 1 and
22 -3) No
are good
2 release)
change.
forage
species and
no more than
3% noxious
weeds
No woody plant density standards are applicable for any of the above areas.
10.1 Cover
Areas 1A and 1B have been fully released. Areas 1 -A and 1 -B are areas previously
mined, and which were re- affected under the mine and reclamation plan for New Horizon
#1 Mine, therefore the requirements of Rule 4.15.10 apply. Area 2 vegetative cover of the
revegetated area will be considered acceptable if it is not less than 90 percent of the total
perennial live vegetative cover in the reference area with 90 percent statistical confidence.
As stated above, ground cover existing before the re- disturbance was documented during
the summer of 1988 by collecting cover data on the previously reclaimed area disturbed
REVISED 11 Nov 09 Tab 22 -20
