PERMIT #: M-1982-094
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: ECS
INSPECTION DATE: January 12, 2011
OBSERVATIONS
This was a routine monitoring inspection for the Kit Carson County #1 Pit, a Kit Carson County 1 IOc sand and
gravel permit, conducted by Eric Scott of DRMS. DRMS traveled with Kit Carson Road and Bridge
representative Walt Isenbart to the site, and observed the site with him at approximately 1210.
This is a borrow material site that has been intermittently active based on the county need for material in the
area. The mining site identification sign and permit markers were present at the time of the inspection. Kit
Carson County has 6 acres permitted at this location. Mining appears to be proceeding according to the
approved plan. Only 2 issues were noted with respect to this site. The first is that the southern high-wall is very
near the south boundary of the permit area as marked. Care should be taken to not excavate any further to the
south or go "out-of-bounds" when re-sloping the high-wall for final reclamation. Material will need to be
"pushed-up" to the wall to get the appropriate slope for final release. The second issue is that the map on file
with DRMS for the site is the same map that was photocopied for the original 1982 permit application. This
map needs to be updated as appropriate to reflect the current site conditions, and submitted with the next annual
report for the site.
Inspection Contact Address
Walt Isenbart
Kit Carson County
251 16th St
Burlington, CO 80807
