STATE OF COLORADO
Bill Ritter, Jr., Governor
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES
DIVISION OF WILDLIFE
AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER
Thomas E. Remington, Director
6060 Broadway
Denver, Colorado 80216
Telephone: (303) 297-1192
wildlife. state.co. us
December 9, 2010
TO: Angela Bellantoni
Environmental Alternatives, Inc.
1107 Main Street
Canon City, CO 81212
FROM: Colorado Division of Wildlife
SUBJECT: Rock Gulch Sand and Gravel Pit, Co. Rd. 107
sro? OF ?y4
For Wildlife-
For People
On Nov. 29, 2010, an e-mail was sent to our Salida Office concerning the above pit. Comments were
requested addressing any concerns or issues we might have on this project. The site was toured today,
and we would make the following preliminary comments. A more detailed Mined Land Wildlife
Statement will be required of us by the Mined Land Reclamation Board as the application process goes
forward.
The area of the proposed Pit is not home to any known threatened or endangered species.
The parcel of land where the pit is located is heavily disturbed, and has obviously been actively rnined
for sand and gravel for many years. The area around the pit is heavily used by deer. The animals which
live around this pit have obviously adjusted to this mining activity.
Our main concern would be the rehabilitation of the area following mining, and that will be addressed in
the Mined Land Wildlife Statement, and should be a standard requirement of the Mined and
Reclamation Board.
Thank you for providing this opportunity to comment. Please feel free to contact our local Division of
Wildlife office at 530-5520 should you have any further needs or questions.
Sincerely,
,James L.
