HAMILTON MINE, C1991-078, S12 VEGETAION REPORT REVIEW JANUARY 10, 2011
Mine Area 3 Productivity= 397.1 lbs/ac
Reclamation standard (0.9 X Sage ref A 50%/Sage B 50%)= 78.48lbs/acre
Both Mine Areas 1 and Mine Area 3 far exceeded the reclamation success standard for herbaceous
productivity for the 2010 Vegetation sampling event. Mine Area 3 still exhibits a considerable component
of annual species (Russian thistle). Honeywood provided a demonstration showing Mine Area 3
herbaceous perennial production still exceeds the herbaceous perennial production of the weighted
reference area with the annual component removed.
Herbaceous production was found to be successful for both reclaimed Mine Area 1 and Mine Area 3.
Species Diversity:
The reclamation success standard for species diversity for the Hamilton Mine requires:
1 perennial forb
1 perennial cool season
grass
2 perennial warm-season grass
each exhibiting between 3% and 40% relative cover.
Results based on the cover sampling data of the 2010 vegetation sampling event found:
Mine Area 1: 1 perennial forb
3 perennial cool-season grasses
2 perennial warm-season grasses
The reclaimed Mine Area 1 exceeded the standard for species diversity.
Mine Area 3: 1 perennial forb
3 perennial cool-season grasses
2 perennial warm-season grasses
The reclaimed Mine Area 3 exceeded the standard for species diversity.
Other than directing the operator to continue to implement the approved weed control plan, and also control
the Mine Area 3 for Russian thistle, I have no other adequacy concerns with this report. Please contact me if
you have any questions with this review.
