Whetstone
Associates
Technical Memorandum
COST
Hayward Baker and Whetstone Associates provided the following cost estimates for grouting the
corehole at the Schwartzwalder Mine:
Table 3. Cost Estimate for Coreho/e Grouting
1. Hayward Baker Costs
Mob/demob $5,000
Daily rate $3,500
Materials $ 500
Total $9,000
H. Whetstone Associates Costs
Mob/demob $ 675
Daily rate $ 900
Meals & Lodging $ 100
Incidentals $ 80
Total $1,455
The cost of materials shown in Table 3 is estimated based on the expected volume of annular space
and grout penetration into fractures. Clearly, the volume of materials will be very low if the
fractures surrounding the corehole are not extensive, but could be high if the grout penetrates out
into the fractures. It is Cotter's goal to grout any fractures that may be connected to the corehole, so
using a high volume of grout could be necessary for the overall goal of reducing permeability in and
around the corehole. Extra material will be brought on site in case it is needed, and any unused and
undamaged material will be returned to Hayward Baker at no cost to Cotter.
REFERENCES
Army Corps of Engineers, 1984.
