ame
Earth & Environmental
V) VLF Primary Underdrain
Construction of the Primary Underdrain continued using a CAT 330 excavator and a CAT D-9 dozer
to excavate the underdrain trench. Subgrade was inspected by an AMEC representative and found to
be competent and acceptable for geotextile placement. Geotextile (12oz/yd ) was then deployed and 6"
CPe perforated piping was then placed and coupled in the trench. Underdrain Fill material (UFM) was
then placed in a 3-foot lift in the trench using a CAT 980 front-end loader and the geotextile was
wrapped around the UFM, overlapping a minimum of 2 feet. Select structural fill was then placed in a
minimum 6" lift using a CAT 980 front-end loader and moisture conditioned (when necessary).
Compaction was performed using a static smooth drum compactor. Nuclear density testing was
performed on the placed material with passing results. Moisture-density relations were performed in
accordance with ASTM D-698-07. The remainder of the trench was backfilled using a structural fill
excavated from the trench previously. Approximately 800 linear feet of the Primary Underdrain was
installed during the week.
VI) VLF Geosynthetics
No work was performed on site during the week.
An AMEC subcontractor performed CQA work on manufactured liner at the Polyflex facility in Grand
Prairie, Texas. Samples were obtained and sent to a third party laboratory for testing, results are
pending.
ACTIVITIES:
SUMMARY:
The CQA activities performed consisted of observing, documenting and recording the construction
activities of the contractor.
AMEC observed and documented ambient and fill temperatures, as well as the placement of structural fill
within the Phase 5 VLF fill area.
AMEC observed stripping topsoil at the East Cresson Clay Borrow.
AMEC observed, obtained samples, and assisted in the process of Soil Liner Fill material at the East
Cresson Clay Borrow.
AMEC observed, obtained samples, and assisted in the process of LVSCF at Pad 4.
AMEC observed confirmatory drill hole grouting #3013.
AMEC observed construction of the Primary Underdrain.
Testing Summary
Laboratory testing continued (Particle Size Distribution, Atterberg Limits, and Moisture-Density
Compaction testing) for sampled materials.
VLF Weekly Report WE 02.20.10.D.doc
