234 Class X Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
4
r
A review of the MTP and Historical Indices for T4N, R94W, and the BLM website indicates that
Site 5MF6116 is located within lands homesteaded by Frank Miller. He received a Stock Raising
Homestead Entry Patent (SRHE No. 995761) for 554 acres in Sections 26 and 23 on February 14,
1927 (BLM n.d.). This entry was filed under the December 1916 Stock Raising Homestead Act.
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Effect Site 5MF6116 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under the conventional application of Criteria A,
B, C, and D. The site is a surface manifestation that cannot be associated with any person or event
significant in local or regional history. The construction style of the cairn is typical of the expedient
nature of the structure. The sediment context suggests that the site has no potential to contain intact
significant subsurface cultural deposits. It appears that recordation has exhausted the research
potential of the site.
However, the cairn is of unknown age, and the site may possess traditional cultural significance to
Native Americans as a TCP. Therefore, more data is needed to correctly assess the site's NRHP
significance.
The site is located within the mine permit boundary. Because the site may have traditional cultural
significance as a TCP, disturbance would constitute an adverse effect. Therefore, the site should be
avoided pending Native American consultation. Following this stipulation, cultural resource
clearance is recommended.
6.1.59 Site 5MF6117 (253359/44645343)
Site Type Prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 23, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 82 x 23 in
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
