•
228 Class III Inventory, Colowyo :s Collom Mine Project
6.1.57 Site 5MF6115 (RR -5)
Site Tyne Prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 23, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 61 x 59 in
Site Description Site 5MF6115 is a prehistoric lithic scatter located on the northwest - facing slope
of a finger ridge at 6,811 ft (2,076 m). The finger ridge protrudes from the west side of a major
northeast- trending ridge east of the confluence of Morgan and Straight Gulches (Figure 6.137).
Exposed sandstone bedrock is common in the general area, as well as within the site proper
(Figure 6.138). On -site sediment consists of residual sandy clay with a large volume of gravel and
eroding bedrock detritus. The vegetation community consists of scattered sagebrush, stands of
Gambel oak and hawthorn, rabbitbrush, low bunchgrasses, and various forbs. Impacts to the site
include erosion and livestock trampling.
The lithic scatter consists of one flake tool, 58 flakes, one battered cobble, and one mano. The flake
tool is a utilized white opaque chert tertiary flake fragment that measures 3.lP x 1.5 x 0.6 cm and
exhibits usewear along one lateral margin. The debitage assemblage consists of 58 flakes comprised
of 20 secondary flakes, 14 primary flakes, 10 tertiary flakes, and 14 pieces of shatter. White opaque
chert is the dominant material type with 57 specimens. The single exception is one gray opaque
chert tertiary flake. The battered quartzite cobble is an incomplete specimen that measures UP x
6.1 x 5.0 cm and exhibits battering on one end. The complete sandstone mano exhibits light grinding
on its dorsal and ventral faces and possible battering on one end. The mano measured 10.0 x 8.5 x
5.0 cm.
The site was not tested as it is located on residual sediment.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
