Class HI Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 225
The site is located outside the revised project boundary, and the current project will have no effect.
Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.1.56 Site 5MF6114 (RR -4)
Site Type Prehistoric lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 22, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 600 x 50 m
Site Description Site 5MF6114 is a diffuse prehistoric lithic scatter located along the spine of a
northeast- trending ridge at 6,856 ft (2,090 m). The site overlooks the confluence of Morgan and
Straight Gulches (Figure 6.135). The spine upon which the site is located is at a descending
midslope position with major ridges located on either side of the two gulches that parallel the ridge
and join together to the northeast (Figure 6.136). Exposures of sandstone bedrock are common
throughout the general area and on the site proper. On -site sediment consists of residual sandy clay
with a large volume of gravel and eroding bedrock detritus. The moderately dense vegetation
community consists of sagebrush, rabbitbrush, low bunchgrasses, and various forbs. Impacts to the
site include a two -track road passing through portions of the site along the crest of the ridge, erosion,
and livestock trampling.
The lithic scatter consists of one biface fragment, one core, and 106 flakes. The biface fragment is
the distal portion of a possible preform that measures 2.OP x 1.8P x 0.4 cm and is made of
semitranslucent chert. The exhausted semitranslucent chest core measures 7.0 x 4.3 x 2.0 cm and
exhibits five flake scars. Secondary cortex is present on approximately 50% of the dorsal surface.
The debitage assemblage consists of 106 flakes (49 secondary, 36 tertiary, 12 primary, and nine
pieces of shatter). The most common material type is white opaque chert with 90 specimens
(39 secondary, 34 tertiary, eight primary, and nine pieces of shatter). The remainder consists of
15 opaque chert flakes (10 secondary, four primary, and one tertiary) and one quartzite tertiary flake.
47599 TRC Mariah Associates Inc
