124 Class IIIInventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project
NRHP Eligibility Recommendation and Project Eff ect: Site 5MF6086 is recommended as not
eligible for listing on the NRHP when evaluated under Criterion D. The site is a surface expression
consisting of a limited density and diversity of artifacts with no dateable cultural features or
temporally diagnostic artifacts. The results of testing suggest that the site has little or no potential
to contain intact significant subsurface cultural deposits.
The site occurs within the mine permit boundary, but it is not eligible for the NRHP, and the project
will have no effect. Cultural resource clearance is recommended, with no further work.
6.1.29 Site 5MF6087 (NF -16)
Site Tyne Lithic scatter
Legal Location Section 13, T4N, R94W
Landowner Private
Site Dimensions 73 x 42 m
Site Description Site 5MF6087 is a Lithic scatter located on a lower southeast - facing slope near
the north end of a long northeast - trending ridge (Figure 6.65). The site lies at 6,640 ft (2,024 m) and
overlooks the confluence of Collom and Little Collom Gulches to the southeast and a broad drainage
basin to the north (Figure 6.66). On -site sediment consists of a mantle of aeolian sheet deposits
intermixed with slopewashed sandstone bedrock detritus.. Bedrock exposures occur farther
downslope from the site, as well as along a low ridgeline to the immediate north of the site. The
vegetation community consists of dense low sagebrush, rabbitbrush, cheatgrass, low grasses, and
various forbs. Small stands of juniper are located in proximity to the exposed bedrock near the site.
Impacts to the site include erosion and grazing.
The lithic scatter consists of 141 flakes (139 tertiary flakes and two secondary flakes). White opaque
chest is the dominant material type with 140 flakes (138 tertiary flakes and two secondary flakes).
One tertiary flake is made of pink opaque chert.
I*
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
