Coal Quality Data Review for Colowyo Coal Company
•
4) A review of differences between Colowyo Production Moisture values,
Mine Area DH moisture and Collom Area moisture.
5) Preparation of normal distribution curves of Total Moisture from the
Collom Area data and Mine Area DH data by seam.
6) Preparation of cross -plots between MAF Btu /lb versus Depth, and Dry
Basis Btu /Ib versus Depth in the Collom Area data. HGC used these
cross -plots to isolate data points potentially affected by oxidation
and /or burn.
C]
3.1 Review Proximate Analyses
As a cursory check of the database, HGC added the proximate analyses of
those samples containing ash, volatile matter and fixed carbon. As
mentioned above, this exercise highlighted that the 2% moisture factor had
not been applied to the volatile matter or fixed carbon values of the Utah drill
hole.
This exercise also located a few samples with typographical errors. HGC
reviewed the drill hole files and made corrections as needed in the drill hole
database.
This exercise also found that the fixed carbon values for the Consol drill hole
data did not exist in the database. These data did contain total moisture,
ash and volatile matter. Therefore, HGC calculated the fixed carbon values
and added them to the database.
3.2 Ash versus Btu /lb Analysis
3.2.1 Cross -plots and Regression Analysis
HGC prepared cross -plots of ash versus Btu /Ib on dry basis and as- received
basis within the Collom Area. The initial cross -plots were used to isolate
• erroneous ash and Btu /Ib values. HGC found several typographical errors,
July 2004 Page 7 of 16
