• placed above each photograph. The "header board" should contain the title
Colowyo — Collom, the hole number, core run number, core interval depths, and
date. After the core is photographed, all core is logged for geotechnical features
and lithology per the requirements of Call & Nicholas, Inc. and Colowyo Coal
Company. The geotechnical engineer may sample the core for later strength
testing and the geologist needs to record the intervals of the core taken. When
descriptions are complete, the core is then broke into 2 -foot lengths or less to fit
into core bags and then placed into core boxes with stabilizers (dividers). The
core will be bagged and either tied or stapled shut. Each bag will be labeled with
top and bottom depths, Collom project designation, and drill hole number. Coal
seams greater than 1.5 feet are separated from the rock and bagged and boxed
separately. When adequately filled, the box is taped closed. Boxes should be
labeled with the following: Colowyo, Collom Project, hole number, depths of core
in box, date (optional), sample numbers (optional), and box number. A separate
series of boxes are used for the coal that is shipped to the lab.
Coal Core Handling and Sampling
Coal core must be handled with considerable care. The drilling contractor will not
open the split tube containing a coal seam until the geologist is ready to
immediately process the core. To minimize effects of moisture loss and
desiccation in the field from the sun, the coal core will be shielded by covering
• the coal with damp clean cloth or towels. The coal core will be bagged and either
tied or stapled shut. Each bag will be labeled with top and bottom depths,
sample number, Collom project designation, and drill hole number.
The seam thickness cutoffs are as follows:
Coal Seams above & including the GC Seam:
< 1.5 feet Not Sampled unless associated with other thick coals
> 1.5 feet Sampled by coal lithotype (coal, bone, parting, etc.)
Coal Seams below & including the GC Seam:
< 2.0 feet Not Sampled unless associated with other thick coals
> 2.0 feet Sampled by coal lithotype (coal, bone, parting, etc.)
Sampling methods are as follows:
< 3.0 thick Sample in 2 foot increments or proportioned to fit into boxes.
> 3.0 thick Sample 0.5 foot at the top and at the base of the seam;
sample remainder of seam in 2 foot increments; seperately
sample significant boney and dirty horizons and partings as
follows:
•
N:\PROJECTS\ACTIVE PROJECTS \1158520037 RioTinto Coll— Pcrmil\Dralt P—it Tut Tables MapPDF,\ExbibitAEAiibii 611an 7 - Gmiogy Pre -F— ibility RywnWppaidi— \Appaidix F -
Pronx M,\2004Gm1ogic Pra:alurus_rwisaLda; Page 2 Of 6
1/16/2009
