8.4 Estimated Coal Reserves
The estimated coal reserves of the CMA were calculated within the
redesigned CMA pit shell. The pit shell consists of a gridded surface
reflecting pit walls, benches and haul roads.
As mentioned above, true coal reserves can only be reported for coal
controlled by Colowyo. However, much of the mine design and planning
work within the CMA resides in unlease Federal coal. Colowyo expects to
• acquire the the unleased Federal coal via the Collom LBA. Therefore, to
provide a complete estimate of the CMA coal reserves, estimated tonnages
are stated as controlled and uncontrolled for the leased and unleased coal,
respectively.
The estimated total controlled and uncontrolled reserve base of the CMA is
157.1 million recoverable tons. The estimated controlled reserve of the CMA
is 60.1 million recoverable tons. The estimated uncontrolled reserve of the
CMA is 97.0 million recoverable tons. Table 8.4 illustrates the proven and
probable reserve estimates for the CMA.
