Work plan DRAFT 9
40 3.2 Surface water hydrology
Previous work in the Collom area has been conducted to characterize local streams,
springs, and seeps including:
• Colowyo Alluvial Valley Floor Analysis Report by Dames and Moore,
December 1995.
• Jurisdictional Waters Report Executive Summary, Seep and Spring
Survey Wetlands and Waters of the US Survey, Good Spring Creek
Jurisdictional Wetlands Survey and Riparian Habitats Survey, Study
Area C by JBR Environmental Consultants, September 1998.
Information from these studies will be used for surface water baseline. Additional work
will include installation of Parshall flumes at upstream and downstream locations near
the alluvial wells to measure streamflow. Crest stage gages may also be installed to
help identify peak flows. Preliminary surface water monitoring locations are shown on
Plan 1. Table 3.3 shows preliminary flume sizes for each of the monitoring locations.
Table 3.3 Preliminary flume sizes for surface water monitoring sites
Surface water quality analytes are summarized below in Table 3.4. Field parameters
including flow, pH, EC, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), and temperature and will be measured
monthly on perennial streams and perennial springs and seeps. Water quality samples
will be collected quarterly from perennial streams springs and seeps. Surface water
samples will not be filtered.
•
2572 -R1
Colowyo Coal Company, L.P.
Water Management Consultants
Station
Drainage
area
(sq mi)
Throat
width
(in)
Depth
(in)
Max
flow
(cfs)
Min
flow
(cfs)
Upper Straight
6.3
12
18
5.6
0.35
Lower Straight
7.0
12
18
5.6
0.35
Upper Collom
4.0
12
18
5.6
0.35
Lower Collom
5.1
12
18
5.6
0.35
Lower Little Collom
2.9
12
18
5.6
0.35
Upper West Jubb
0.5
9
15
3.1
0.07
Lower West Jubb
1.6
9
15
3.1
0.07
Surface water quality analytes are summarized below in Table 3.4.
