The following specifically addresses the requirements of Rule 3.1.7(7)(b) :
(b) If groundwater monitoring is required, the Operator shall include the following
information as part of a permit application, NOI, or permit or NOI modification: The NOI
for both monitoring wells is included with this TR.
(i) a map that accurately locates all proposed groundwater sample points and any
locations that are proposed as a point of compliance; A location survey is included in
Attachment B.
(ii) the method of monitoring well completion where monitoring wells are required;
See Attachment B for wellbore sketch and completion information.
(iii) method of sampling, frequency of sampling and reporting to the Office;
Frequency of sampling is monthly. Exxon Mobil will submit quarterly reports on all
water monitoring wells and an annual hydrology report. Each annual report will be
submitted to DRMS by March 31 of the following year.
Surface Water Sampling Method: Field notes are kept of all work in an organized
manner to document field procedures, and the data parameters recorded are site
flow/discharge, field parameters (temperature, pH, conductivity, and dissolved oxygen),
remarks, sample collected and lab name, equipment list, and sampler's name.
Sample collection consists of water grab samples. A pitcher is triple rinsed before the
grab sample is collected. Raw sample bottles are filled directly from the pitcher. Filtered
sample bottles are filled by filtering water which is collected from the pitcher or a gallon
size triple rinsed plastic bottle. Some sample bottles require filtration to fill the bottles. A
peristaltic pump is used to slowly pump the water through a 0.45µm pore size disposable
filter. The pump tubing is rinsed with distilled water before and after use.
Groundwater Sampling Method: Field notes are kept of all work in an organized manner
to document field procedures, and the data parameters recorded are well identification,
date and time, well casing, diameter, casing material, total depth, water depth, bore
volumes, pumping depth, pumping time, flow rate - purging (when possible) sampling,
pH, conductivity, temperature, samples collected, and equipment list. Water level
measurements are static water level measurements that are made at each well from a
known reference point at the top of the well casing. The level is measured to the
hundredth of a foot. Well purging of WWI 1, WW-EF-0 1 and TH-A6 wells are done with
dedicated pumps at a flow rate determined by the pump. The MW-12, EF-V2, EF-V3A,
EF-V4 & EF-AW 1 wells are purged using a portable Redi Flow II pump. Purging
procedures include pumping stagnant water from each well. Well purging is considered
finished when three bore volumes are pumped while monitoring water temperature, pH,
and conductivity. These parameters should be consistent before sampling.
M-1980-047 Technical Revision 14 Submittal Page 3
