Most of the stockpiles of soil were too small to include in the Order 2 survey level; .
however, one of the larger study plots of Disturbed Land was delineated as a separate
map unit. Although there is likely more Disturbed Land in the study area occurring in
very small areas, approximately 0.9 acres of Disturbed Land were mapped in the study
area (0.6% of total). The salvaged topsoil stockpiles may be reclaimed during future
research studies. However, the current status of these stockpiles is Disturbed Land.
Reclaimed Land (RL) A reclaimed pipeline corridor traverses the southern boundary of
the study area. Approximately 6.68 acres of Reclaimed Land were mapped in the study
area (5 % of total). Current reclamation condition is generally good, supporting a healthy
stand of diverse grasses and low shrubs.
Table 1 - Soil Map Unit Characteristics and Table 2 - Soil Interpretations detail the soil
series and map units descriptions even further. However, only the major study area soils
are detailed in Table 1 and Table 2. The soil map unit descriptions contained in Table 1
include:
• Map Unit Number and Name
• Percent of the Map Unit of the Major Soil Components
• Brief Soil Profile Description
• Terrain and Vegetation
• Parent Material Type
• Acres and Percent of Total
• Highly Erodible Land (HEL) Status, Wind and Water
• Land Capability Classification
• Range/Woodland Site
The soil interpretations contained in Table 2 include:
• Soil Series Name and Map Unit
• Texture of the Control Section
• Soil Depth
• Effective Rooting Depth
• Internal Drainage
• Permeability
• Available Water Holding Capacity
• Rate of Surface Runoff
• Typical Reaction Class
• Wind Erosion Group and HEL Wind Status
• Water erosion Hazard and HEL Water Status
• Erosion Potential "K" Factor
• Hydrologic Group
• Understory Production (lbs/ac/yr)
• Organic Matter Content (percent) of the Surface Layer
• Thickness of the "A" Horizon Surface Layer
9
