Class Ill Inventory, Colowyo's Collom Mine Project 329
•
•
Figure6202 Overview of Site 5MF1652, LookingNorthwest (Taken by James Petersen, 8 /25/05).
The current inventory determined that the site should be fully rerecorded because additional artifacts
were found that were not described in the original site form. Only Feature 1 was relocated, a new
feature (Feature 3) was defined, and an extensive surface artifact scatter was recorded. Feature 1
appears to be in the same condition since its original recording. Feature 3 is a dark stain containing
four pieces of heat - altered sandstone (Figure 6.203). It is located in the southeastern comer of the
site eroding from the road cut approximately 5 to 10 cm below surface. The visible parts of the
feature measure 40 cm long x 10 cm high.
The newly recorded artifact assemblage consisted of one projectile point (collected), four bifaces,
two utilized flakes, two scrapers, 71 pieces of debitage, and eight pieces of heat - altered sandstone.
The projectile point is the midsection and partial base of a Late Prehistoric side - notched arrow point
made from tan oolitic chert. The point is thin, finely flaked on both faces, and measures 2.7 x 1.4 x
0.3 cm (Figure 6.204). Bifsce 1 is the proximal end of a final biface made from fossiliferous chert.
47599
TRC Mariah Associates Inc.
