64
Alluvial water quality
Groundwater
Five rounds of water quality data are available for the alluvial monitoring wells
(December 2004 through April 2005). Additional data collected by KEC in 1996 and
1997 from MJ- 95 -01, MJ- 95 -02, and MJ -95 -03 were reviewed and integrated into the
conceptual hydrogeologic model. Results of the alluvial well samples are summarized in
Table 5.9. The complete dataset is provided in Appendix 5.K. Laboratory analysis
sheets for samples collected by KEC in 1995 -1996 are also included in Appendix 5.K.
Table 5.9 also lists the Federal MCLs and secondary drinking water quality criteria. All
samples exceeded the secondary drinking water MCL for TDS of 500 mg /l except for
samples from MJ- 95 -02. Water quality in several wells also exceeded the secondary
drinking water MCL for iron (0.3 mg /1) and manganese (0.05 mg /1). Exceedances for iron
and manganese are discussed below.
2572 -R2 Colowyo Coal Company
Water Management Consultants
