Surface water 33
Springs in Little Collom Gulch produce widely divergent water types. SPRLC -01
produces a calcium /magnesium- bicarbonate water with a TDS of 1,720 and pH of 7.18.
At SPRLC -02, the water is a calcium /magnesium- bicarbonate, with a TDS of 770 and pH
of 7.48. SPRLC-03 produces an unusual water for the area — a sodium bicarbonate,
with a TDS of 1,470 and a pH of 7.81.
Spring water from the upper reaches of Collom Gulch (SPRC -01) is a magnesium/
calcium- sulfate water, with a TDS of 1,780 mg /I and a mildly alkaline pH of 7.7. The
sample for this location exceeded the drinking water MCL for selenium (MCL is 0.05 and
detected value is 0.051 mg /1). Further down Colom Gulch at SPRC -02, the water is a
magnesium- bicarbonate water. The TDS was 760 mg /I and the pH was 8.66. Closer to
the axis of the syncline, the sample from SPRC -03 produces a calcium /magnesium-
bicarbonate /sulfate water with a TDS of 1,060 and a pH of 7.19. Further downstream,
SPRC -04 produces a calcium /magnesium- bicarbonate water with a TDS of 1,050 and a
pH of 7.18.
The water quality of sample from SPRS -01 in Spring Creek is a magnesium -
sulfate /bicarbonate. The water had a pH of 7.3 and a TDS of 1,210 mg /I.
i
2572 -R2 Colowyo Coal Company
Water Management Consultants
