28 Surface water <br />Three additional springs, SPRC -02, SPRLC -02, and SPRLC -03 were identified during <br />the survey. SPRC -02 is located in the road cut coming out of Collom Gulch to the east <br />and SPRLC -03 is located at a similar elevation and across the ridge on the western <br />slope of Little Collom Gulch. SPRLC -02 is located in a side drainage of Little Collom <br />Gulch upstream (south) of SPRLC -03 and east of the main drainage. The locations of <br />the springs are shown on Figure 4.2. <br />Table 4.3 summarizes the information obtained from the December 2004 spring and <br />seep inventory. A description of springs and seeps is provided below. Photographs of <br />the springs and seeps are provided in Appendix 4.D. <br />4.5.1 Jubb Creek springs <br />Two springs were identified and sampled in the Jubb Creek drainage — SPRJ -01 and <br />SRPJ -02. <br />SPRJ -01 is located at the confluence of two small drainages in the headwaters of East <br />Fork Jubb Creek. The spring emerges from the base of the hillside between the two <br />drainages. The point of emergence is currently identified by a dead tree (see photo <br />Appendix 4.D). The estimated rate of flow for the spring was less than 0.5 gpm on <br />December 5, 2004, based on the time required to fill a shallow pit used to collect the <br />sample. The source appears to be a bedrock outcrop. This spring was previously <br />identified in the JBR report and is considered to be perennial. The flow of the spring is <br />captured immediately downstream by a stock pond. Below the stock pond are a windmill <br />and valley fill well MJ- 95 -02. <br />SPRJ -02 is a series of small springs that emerge from the east side of the incised <br />channel of Jubb Creek below the confluence of the east and west Forks of Jubb Creek. <br />The springs emerge from the valley fill in 3 or 4 distinct places and numerous smaller <br />seeps were observed over a section of bank approximately 150 ft in length. The three to <br />four distinct springs each had minor flow on December 8, 2004, while the conjoined flow <br />at the sampling point was approximately 0.5 gpm. Flow was measured based on the <br />time required to fill a one - gallon container. The source of the springs and seeps at this <br />locale is most likely the extensive valley fill in the stream banks. Each distinct spring <br />emerges several ft above the stream bed (Appendix 4.D). These springs were not <br />specifically identified in the JBR report. The JBR report identified springs upgradient of <br />the 2004 sampling location, but they could not be located at the time of the December <br />2004 survey. <br />2572 -R2 Colowyo Coal Company <br />Water Management Consultants <br />
