Aerial photographs were taken on December 13, 2010 at
approximately 1:45 p.m. Weather conditions appeared to be clear and sunny at the time of the flight. Mike
Boulay of the DRMS reviewed the aerial photographs.
Twelve photographs were taken during the flyover. The portions of the mine site that are visible in the
photographs include the Unit Train Loadout area, North Decline, South Portals area, and the CRDA waste disposal
sites (CRDA -1 and CRDA -2). Xcel Energy trucks were hauling ash from the Cameo Steam Plant to the ash
disposal site adjacent to the permit area. There was no other activity discernible in the photographs.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
The CRDA -1 waste disposal site is shown in Photograph No. I. The recently reclaimed temporary coal waste
storage area atop the CRDA -1 pile is visible in the photo. The Cameo Sand Storage Facility at the UTL area is
shown in Photograph No. 2.
The mine site was dry. The only sediment ponds readily apparent in the photos are Ponds 8 and 9. These
sedimentation ponds were dry and appeared to be functional.
The mine site roads visible in the photographs adjacent to Coal Creek were dry, and appeared well maintained and
in good condition. The road up to the shop and warehouse at the South Portal was in good condition. There was
no activity at the South Portal as the fruit stand and warehouse remain closed for business at this time. The
facilities areas and perimeter locations visible in the photographs were all very well maintained and appeared to be
in good condition.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 4
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 2 of 5
