Storm water
controls were maintained throughout the week.
V) VLF Soil Liner Fill
A) Phase IVa Geomembrane Re-certification
Sampling of the existing Soil Liner Fill for the Phase IVa and Phase IVc re-certification areas was
performed by an AMEC representative. A nuclear density test was taken at each location prior to
sampling. One 2"core, one 2.5"core, and one bag sample was taken from each location. A depth
check was also performed at each location. Soil liner fill depth was found to be no less than twelve
inches. The geomembrane was perched up using sandbags, replaced, and covered using
geotextile/sandbags.
Soil liner fill placement was performed at the Phase IVa recertification area using a CAT 966
front-end loader and a CAT 330 excavator. The material was hauled from the South Cresson Clay
stockpile using 40-ton articulating haul trucks loaded by a CAT 966 front-end loader. Moisture
conditioning was performed using a CAT 773 water truck and compaction was performed using a
10-ton vibratory smooth drum compactor, assisted by a CAT 330 excavator. An AMEC
representative was present during all soil liner fill placement. Three nuclear density tests were
performed on the soil liner fill with results averaging 96% of maximum dry density. Moisture
density relations were performed in accordance with ASTM D-698-07. Two moisture samples of
the soil liner fill were tested in the laboratory and results were within project specification. A depth
check was performed and the soil liner fill was found to be no less than 12" thick. The soil liner fill
was covered using visqueen plastic and will remain covered until the geomembrane installer is
ready to begin work in the area.
VI) VLF Geosynthetics
A) Phase IVa and Phase IVc Geomembrane Re-certifications
Exposure of the Phase IVa geomembrane at the northeast corner of the facility (approximate stations
G13+00 to G15+00) and Phase IVc geomembrane at the old LOB site continued using a John Deere
35D excavator. The bulk of the excavation was performed using a CAT 330 excavator. This was
performed to re-certify the liner in this area. An AMEC representative was present at all times during
the exposure.
CQA ACTIVITIES:
SUMMARY:
The CQA activities performed consisted of observing, documenting and recording the construction
activities of the contractor.
AMEC observed placement of structural fill within the Phase 5 VLF fill area.
AMEC observed structural fill placement (processed ore) within the Phase IV VLF constantly. Nuclear
density testing was performed during placement.
VLF Weekly Report WE 11.07.09.D.doc
