Despite multiple layers of preventative measures now in place to prevent water treatment
plant overflows, it will be best to conduct future remedial activities involving excavation of
alluvial fill materials during the months of August and September, and to complete such
activities prior to mid-October when Ralston Creek historically begins flowing again
adjacent to the alluvial fill and recharges groundwater tables. This will reduce the potential
for having to manage, store or treat large amounts of groundwater which could contain
sediment and may exceed flow capacity limitations or cause related problems.
Aside from expectations that the problematic circumstances described above have been
effectively mitigated, there is still the potential for periodic operational problems that can be
expected with any mechanical/electrical system. For this reason, a daily inspection check list
has been developed for site personnel to perform.
