• Richard D. Piland & Associates
Hydrology Monitoring Report 2009
Stream Flow Monitoring Data
The 2009 Water Year Discharge reports and hydrographs of the five stream flow
monitoring station are in Appendix A. There are three graphs for each station; one
representing daily flow in cubic feet per second, one representing monthly acre feet
totals and one of annual total discharge in acre feet.
The total precipitation for the 2009 Water Year was below average for the period
of record at the Colony Site. The winter snow pack was below average, with most of
the snow melting during the end of April. Spring moisture was above average. The late
summer months were dry and below average. Total precipitation for the water year was
17.54 inches of moisture, with the average being 20.5.
The 2009 Water Year total stream flow discharge was below average, probably
due below average snow pack. The snowmelt runoff was in April with stream flows
staying below average all summer.
Table 4 (with the graph titled Total Yearly Discharges) plots yearly stream flow
runoff discharge in acre feet for each year from 1998 through 2009. The graph shows
total runoff with the precip plotted against the second y-axis.
Table 5 lists the average monthly stream flow at each monitoring site for the
• period 1984 to 2009. The accompanying graph titled Average Monthly Discharge
clearly shows peak discharges are usually during May. In 2009 stream discharge
peaked during first of May from the snowmelt runoff.
Stream flow water quality samples collected for each site are listed in Table 2.
During the 2009 Water Year samples were collected at F1 3R Davis Gulch (549N) and
Middle Fork @ Lab sites each quarter. Graphs were made of the water quality
parameters which are marked in Table 3. These water quality graphs are in Appendix
B. Parameters were not graphed when the analyte result was below the practical
quantitation limit. Sampling sites were changed in 1993 to two sites, F13R Davis Gulch
and Middle Fork @ Lab ( F1 R when MF@ Lab is dry). During 1997 the surface water
quality parameters and chain of custody procedures were changed. Sampling
parameters are outline in batteries for each type of sample collected (ie.-Site Stream,
Site Well, or Site NPDES). Site Stream Battery A is listed in Appendix B. A separate
chain of custody form is now filled out for each Battery Type. Each Battery is then
logged by the Lab as a separate job which streamlines billing and reporting.
GROUNDWATER MONITORING WELLS
Groundwater monitoring wells are summarized in Table 6 showing well location,
completion interval, elevation, total depths and other data.
5
