Richard D. Piland & Associates
Hydrology Monitoring Report 2007
•
Operating Procedures
Bi-monthly water level measurements are made with an electronic water level
indicator. The indicator is lowered into the well and the cable marked, at the top of the
casing, when the probe contacts the water surface. The distance is then measured to
the hundredth of a foot. The well name, date, time, and distance to water are recorded
in a field book. Due to the stretch of the cable on the water level indicator, a correction
factor is applied to the field measurement. The distance is then converted to a water
level elevation.
Yearly water quality samples were collected in eleven wells for 2007. All wells
except MW-12 have a dedicated submersible pump which is used to purge the well and
collect a water quality sample. At MW-12 a portable pump is used. Water quality
parameters for temperature, pH, and conductivity are monitored during the purging
process. Sample bottle sets which are furnished by the laboratory are field filtered,
filled, and preserved as required. The samples are packed with ice in a cooler for
shipment to the lab. Battery B is the category of analytical parameters for groundwater
sampling. A list of these parameters is in Appendix D. For 2007 chain of custody forms
labeled "Site Well Battery B" were used for lab delivery of sample sets. Notes of the
sampling process are recorded in a field book which includes well name, data, time,
water depth, total depth, purge volume, and field water quality parameters.
• Groundwater Monitoring Data
The groundwater monitoring data for 2007 is represented in both graph and
tabular form. Graphs were made of the bi-monthly water level elevations plotted
against a monthly average elevation for the well and the monthly precipitation for the
year. A set of graphs grouping wells of similar geological completion intervals were
also made. These graphs are in Appendix C of this report.
Table 7 tabulates and graphs the average bi-monthly water level elevations.
Yearly average groundwater elevation are in Table 8 with a graph of the WW-4 series of
wells. During 2007 the groundwater levels for most wells are lower than the average
elevation. The ground water elevations at WW-10 changed considerably when the
pump was pulled from the well in June. The bottom of the piezometer tube might have
been sealed.
Yearly groundwater quality samples were collected in eleven monitoring wells
during 2007. Graphs of the groundwater quality were made comparing each parameter
for 2007 to the average. Graphs were also made comparing milligram-equivalents per
liter for seven chemical constituents at wells of similar geological completion intervals.
The graphs showed chemical constituents to be similar for the same aquifers.
A groundwater duplicate sample was not collected in 2007.
• 9
